HALLELUJAH!!! OUR PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
After a week that has been pure torture for all of us, Dwight woke up!
During my early morning shower (before any word of Dwight's amazing progress from the night), I didn't know whether to cry, scream, or just remain numb. The words of a song I learned as a little child kept resonating through my mind:
The Lord knows the way through the wilderness
All I have to do is follow
Strength for today is mine always
All that I need for tomorrow
The Lord knows the way through the wilderness
All I have to do is follow!
I have been in the deep valleys and in the wilderness. But your prayers have been with me and have given me the courage and strength to withstand each hour. Without that, I would have exploded.
Here is what is happening right now:
They took Dwight off the respirator, but he was breathing too shallow. They have reconnected the respirator for the time being and have given him another sedative to keep him calm. They will try to take him off of it again today. When he has been breathing on his own for 24 hours, they will transfer him to another floor. He looked at us, was able to nod to questions, but naturally he is scared and confused and totally unaware how terribly sick he was. There are still some issues such as the huge ulcer, but we have been through so many more serious things, that we are glad it is only that now.
Please continue to pray for his recovery. They said that he had several years of stress and bodily aging due to the massive abuse to his system. Perhaps now our energy level will be the same. Dwight was always super go-go-go!
I have my rock back! I am so thankful to all of you but most of all to God who listened to our prayers and showed us mercy and grace!

Dear Sue, Christine, Barbara, Nathan, and Mark,
ReplyDeleteThis is TERRIFIC news. My eyes filled with tears as I read through your postings. All of you have been through so much this week that I kept thinking of this song as I was praying for Dwight and all of you:
"When you walk through the storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark.
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone."
So many people care so deeply about all of you and have been doing some real "heavy duty" praying this week. God heard us collectively as a community. Miracles do happen!!!!!
We will continue to pray for complete healing for Dwight and strength and rest for all of you until Dwight is back home in Skokie.
Love, Davida and Joe

I rejoice with you all on the news of Dwight's awakening from the coma. I too had goosebumps and tears of joy as I read Sue's entry. Now in the coming days as he grows stronger, may you still be surrounded by prayers and God's love until Dwight can return to the practical joker I've known him to be!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Wendy
With Easter just around the corner, this feels like a real rising for us all to witness. Will keep all in my prayers and good thoughts that Dwight walks out of the hospital and enjoys an Easter dinner with his family once again. Praying for the doctors who care for him that they continue to make the right decisions for his full recovery.
ReplyDeleteWe Praise God for answered prayer. Judy and I will continue to pray for Sam's complete recovery.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless you all during this trying time. Yes, whoever said Dwight is planning more practical jokes is right. Judy and I will bring this up for prayer during our worship service tomorrow at 1st Pres, Downers Grove. Take care you all.

Hallelujah and amen! Prayer changes things, and God heard every prayer this week and made the best change we could imagine. God is good, all the time! We will continue to pray for Dwight to be completely healed. May God continue to hold all of you in the palm of His hand!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous news! Tears of happiness were streaming down my cheeks as I read your blog. Brooke stated it correctly: the practical jokes are on their way. Davida's song from Carousel brought words of encouragement. We'll continue to pray for Dwight's miraculous healing, his strength and determination and many more years of his keen sense of humor. The rainbow is appearing and illuminating the sky.
ReplyDeleteRainbows appear after mighty storms
When things look their worst;
Just when the skies are darkest gray,
Out of heaven does the rainbow burst.
God first sent the rainbow to Noah
As a sign that His word is true;
The rainbow's eternal message
Still speaks to me and you.
The rainbow is a sign of God's promise
That He will guide us through any storm;
That He will ease all our troubles
No matter what their form.
When you feel battered by life's storms
And you are filled with doubt and dismay,
Just remember God's rainbow is coming
For it's blessing ... you only have to pray.
